It seems like every multiplayer game these days is on the verge of dying, at least according to its fanbase. Is that the case with League of Legends? Let’s see what do the numbers say…

As it’s always the case, the League of Legends player base is citing various reasons why League of Legends is dying. The biggest of which is Riot Game s’ neglect of the game.

And, while there is some truth that Riot are not keeping up with LoL demand, sweeping issues under the rug, instead of fixing them, is LoL dying?

All it takes for us to disprove these claims that the biggest game in the world is dying, is to compare it with some other popular titles.

When comparing League of Legends to DotA 2, the second-biggest MOBA in the world, DotA2 currently has around 11 million active monthly users. League of Legends, during its worst months, has 10 times those numbers in 2022, showing that LoL still has life left to give.

The most famous first-person shooter in the world, with the biggest eSport presence, is CS: GO, and still, comparing it to LoL is just not fair. It currently has around 26 million active monthly users, with League of Legends surpassing those numbers by more than a 100 million.

And when it comes to the titans of gaming, we have Minecraft, a game with endless potential. It is a game that spearheaded its own genre, and is one of the most popular games in the world for more than a decade.

And even Minecraft, which currently has an estimated 125 million players, still falls short of League of Legends by around 50 million players. And, while Riot Games, could work on making LoL have a better new-player experience, its current status shows that there are more than enough new players coming in, and old players sticking around.
