GTA 5 fans were disappointed to learn Rockstar canceled the game’s single-player DLC, which was supposed to feature undercover agent Trevor.
Considering the response, it might be difficult to imagine how something so potentially popular could be scrapped, but the reason is very simple.
According to Rockstar’s former senior camera artist Joe Rubino, it was a “business decision” made because of the hype around GTA Online.
“When GTA Online came out, it was so much of a cash cow and people were loving it so much that it was hard to make an argument that a stand-alone DLC would out-compete that. I think looking back now, I would say that we could probably do both, you know, but that was a business decision that they made, and I was a little upset about that,” he told SanInPlay.
The sad part is that the DLC was halfway done, in Rubino’s words. Thankfully, we didn’t lose everything: he says a lot of that content ended up in the multiplayer mode. So while much of the employees’ effort was kind of wasted, it was not all gone.
Moreover, even the content that was not used in GTA Online gets leaked once in a while, like the soundtrack, so we can enjoy some bits and pieces here and there.

All we have left now is to wait for GTA 6, which should be released in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
